Viktor Axelsen pulls out of BWF World Championships 2025 due to injury

Viktor Axelsen is a two-time BWF World Champion.
Two-time Olympic gold medallist Viktor Axelsen has officially withdrawn from the upcoming BWF World Championships 2025, set to begin on August 25 at the Adidas Arena in Paris.
The Danish badminton star announced on Thursday through his social media channels.
“After careful consultation with my medical team, I’ve been advised to dedicate more time to my rehabilitation. As a result, I won’t be able to get tournament-ready in time to compete safely at the upcoming World Championships.”
“While it’s tough to miss such a big event, I’m not discouraged. On the contrary, I’m highly motivated to keep pushing forward with my rehab and set myself a new goal to come back stronger. Thanks as always for your continued support,” said Viktor on X.

The Paris 2024 Olympics gold medallist underwent back surgery in April. Although he made attempts to return to top form, he has not recovered fully in time for the prestigious tournament.
Earlier this season, the 30-year-old started the year 2025 on a great note by winning the India Open and later won the German Open title, which was also his first Super 300 win since 2021.
However, his physical troubles became apparent during the All England Open, where he suffered a first-round defeat to Lin Chun-Yi.
Viktor Axelsen is a two-time World Champion, having won gold in Tokyo in 2022 and Glasgow in 2017. He had also won bronze in 2014.
