The inaugural edition of the championship was held a decade back in 2013 and since then this specific format has attained huge success among the Indian basketball fraternity.
The Indian U-18 men’s basketball team won two matches and finished third in their respective pool at the recently concluded FIBA U-18 3*3 World Cup 2023. A year prior, the team secured direct qualification to the U-18 World Cup after finishing runner-up at the Asian Cup. This was India’s first direct qualification to World Cup on merit across all age groups.
Moreover, India (men’s and women’s) is set to participate in the Asian Games in the 3*3 format which justifies the growth, the format has seen in India as the 5*5 men’s team couldn’t make it through to the Games.
