The city of Ludhiana, Punjab is all set to host the prestigious Senior National Basketball Championship 2023 from December 3 to 10. This highly anticipated event will witness 32 state teams from across the country vying for the national title.
The men’s team from Punjab, the defending champions, are entering the tournament on a high note. They clinched the title in the last edition by outplaying Tamil Nadu in an electrifying final. Their confidence is further bolstered by their recent gold medal victory at the 37th National Games held in Goa, where they once again triumphed over Tamil Nadu with a nail-biting score of 105-103.
The Basketball Federation of India (BFI), established in 1950, is the proud organizer of this annual event, which holds the distinction of being one of the oldest and most prestigious basketball tournaments in the country. The inaugural men’s championship was held in New Delhi in 1934, while the women’s championship commenced in 1950.
In the women’s section, the Indian Railways team, last year’s champions, are gearing up to defend their title. They secured their championship last year with a resounding victory over Telangana, scoring 131-82.
