The FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers will kick off on February 22, with 24 teams vying for 16 spots in the final round of the tournament, which will be held in Saudi Arabia next year. The qualifiers will be played over three windows: February 2024, November 2024 and February 2025. Each window will feature four gamedays, giving the teams a chance to start their campaigns on a high note.
Teams have been divided into six groups of four, based on their rankings and geographical proximity. The top two teams from each group will secure their tickets to the FIBA Asia Cup 2025, while the six third-placed teams will have another opportunity to qualify through a separate tournament.
The FIBA Asia Cup is the flagship event of basketball in Asia, showcasing the best talents and teams from the continent. It has been held biennially since its inception, except for 2019 and 2021, when it was postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The first window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers will take place in Kazakhstan and New Delhi from February 23 to 26. The Indian Senior Men’s Basketball team will face Qatar, Iran and Kazakhstan in Group E, hoping to make a strong impression in front of their home fans.
The FIBA Asia Cup has been won by six different national teams, with China being the most successful one, having claimed the title 16 times. The Chinese Men’s team has dominated the Asian basketball scene with their power and speed, earning them a formidable reputation. The Philippines have won the title five times, followed by Iran with three titles. South Korea, Australia and Japan have each won the title twice.
Australia are the defending champions, having won their second title at the FIBA Asia Cup 2022, which was also hosted by Indonesia. They will look to defend their crown and challenge the Asian giants in Saudi Arabia next year.
