India names squad for FIBA U16 Asia Cup 2025 - SABA Qualifiers; check squad, schedule

Both the men’s and women’s tournament at FIBA U16 Asia Cup 2025 – SABA Qualifiers will be played from June 12 to 15.

The U16 Indian men’s and women’s basketball teams are slated to play the FIBA U16 Asia Cup 2025 SABA Qualifiers from June 12 to 15. Other than India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and hosts Maldives will compete for two spots in the FIBA Asia Cup. The tournament will be held at the Social Center Indoor Hall in Maldives.

The men’s team finished ninth in the previous edition of the FIBA U16 Asia Cup in 2022 with a record of 2-2, this was also their best performance in the tournament history as they finished fifth. The team was group with champions Australia, Lebanon and Sri Lanka and Qatar.

For the women’s team, they did not participate in 2023 due to administrative issues. They had finished fifth in Division A in 2022 after a 0-4 record, with defeats coming against Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. The team has played five out of six times in Division A in Asia Cup appearances.

Indian women’s basketball team played Division B in 2017 where they achieved promotion to Division A on home turf. The team then missed the 2023 edition due to administrative issues and will return to action in this edition.

Winners of the SABA qualifiers will go on to play the FIBA Asia Cup 2025.
