Indian men’s and women’s teams both defeated Sri Lanka to qualify for the FIBA U16 Asia Cup 2025.

The Indian men’s and women’s U16 basketball teams secured a qualification for the upcoming edition of the FIBA U16 Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in Mongolia in August/September this year.

The Indian men’s basketball team won the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SABA Qualifiers. They began the tournament with a 111-79 victory over Sri Lanka and followed it up with a massive 151-20 margin win against the Maldives.

The Under-16 Indian team topped the points table of the FIBA ​​U17 Asia Cup SABA Qualifiers 2025 after defeating Bangladesh by a margin of 117-29 in their final group stage match. Sri Lanka began their campaign with a loss against India, but won their next couple of matches against Bangladesh and the Maldives to secure the second spot in the standings.

India faced Sri Lanka in the final to secure a ticket to the FIBA ​​U16 Asia Cup 2025 to be held in Mongolia. Despite Sri Lanka’s decent performance, India won the match by a margin of 94-62 and qualified for the FIBA ​​U16 Asia Cup to be held later this year.

In the Women’s U16 Asia Cup SABA Qualifiers, India were up against Bangladesh, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka in the league stage. They registered convincing victories against the Maldives (136-21) and Bangladesh (137-13) in their first couple of matches. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka also defeated Bangladesh and the Maldives in their first two encounters.

India locked horns against Sri Lanka in the final group stage encounter, despite both nations having secured a spot in the summit clash of the qualifiers. The Indian women’s U16 basketball team defeated Sri Lanka 104-28 to bag the top spot, while Sri Lanka finished second in the standings.

The two sides met each other once again in the final with a FIBA U16 Asia Cup ticket at stake. The Indian women’s basketball team booked a ticket to Mongolia by defeating Sri Lanka by a margin of 103-52.
