India's roster revealed for men's FIBA Asia Cup 2025

The FIBA Asia Cup 2025 will begin on August 5 and run until August 17.

India will kick off their FIBA Asia Cup 2025 campaign against Jordan on August 5 at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The 31st edition of the tournament, scheduled to be held in Jeddah from August 5-17, will crown a new Asian champion.

Australia will enter the competition as the defending champion, eyeing a hat-trick of titles. Meanwhile, India—who finished at the bottom (16th) in the previous edition after losing all of their group matches, will eye a better performance in Jeddah.

The Indian basketball team are placed in Group C, alongside hosts Saudi Arabia, Jordan and heavyweights China—who have won this tournament 16 times. As the countdown to the tournament begins, here is India’s preliminary squad for the competition. The final squad is expected to be a 15-member roster.

Given the opponents in their group, India will enter the tournament as underdogs with potential to deliver upsets.

Following the appointment of Scott Flemming, India have set on a dream to become the next powerhouse in Asian basketball and while they have endured a streak of fluctuating performances, oscillating between promising stretches of play and lapses in execution, the team has showed it has the potential to become the next powerhouse.

Ranked 76th in the world, India qualified for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 mains by finishing third in the qualifiers and subsequently winning their group in their final qualifying tournament.

A total of 16 teams, divided into four groups of four teams each, will compete in the event.

Matches will be played in round-robin format in the group stages with each nation facing the other teams in their respective groups once each. At the completion of the group stages, the first-ranked team from each group will advance directly to the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, the eight second and third-placed teams in each group will meet in another qualification round for the remaining four quarter-final spots.

The final phase of the competition will proceed from the quarter-finals onwards with a single-elimination format in place.

This tournament is held every four years, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the previous edition took place in 2022. Australia defeated Lebanon 75-73 in the final that year to lift their second title.

China will arrive as the most successful nation in the tournament history, having won the FIBA Asia Cup a record 16 times.
