The Indian women’s basketball team confirmed a second-place finish in Group A of FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025 – Division B with a solid 78-55 win over Tahiti in their final group match on Wednesday. India, who had started the day at third, dominated right from the opening minute and won three of the four quarters. Tahiti ended their campaign last in the group—winless and three defeats in three matches.
India will now prepare to face the third-placed team from Group B in the playoff round for semi-final berths. With all four teams still in contention for a top-three finish in Group B, India could face either of Iran or Thailand. Mongolia are currently second in that group, but face the bottom-placed Cook Islands in their last league match.
Sreekala Rani starred for India with most points (15), while Dharshini Thirunavukkarasu was India’s most efficient player in the match. The victory was also a welcome return to winning ways for India, after the humiliating loss t Chinese Taipei in their previous match.

Chinese Taipei have already booked their place in the semi-finals, courtesy of topping the group with three wins from three matches. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan finished third in the group with four points
India, taking part in the competition for the first time since their relegation from the top division in 2021, started with a big win over Kazakhstan after a massive turnaround in the second half. Pushpa Senthil Kumar top scored for the Eves with 23 points while Sreekala Rani and Sathya Krishnamurthi also made notable contributions with 15 points each, including six rebounds and seven assists.
However, India’s joy ride soon ended when the faced the aggressive Chinese Taipei, who brushed aside their opponents with a humiliating 83-39 victory. The Taipei will then go on to beat Kazakhstan 91-47 in their final group game to confirm their place in the semis.
Tahiti, on the other hand, started with a heavy 38-122 loss against Taipei before falling to Kazakhstan 49-69 in their second match. A victory over India might not be enough to lift them from the last position in the group.
