Thailand defeated India 93-76 in a hard-fought match.

The Indian women’s basketball team lost to Thailand in the playoff match for semi-final places at the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025 – Division B. India entered the playoff match by finishing second in their group in the league phase, while Thailand finished third in their group.

Now, Thailand advance to the semi-finals where Group B toppers Iran await them for a place in the final.

Earlier, India won two of their three matches in the group stages to finish second in Group A, behind Chinese Taipei, who directly advanced to the semi-finals as group toppers. India’s only defeat in the league phase came against Taipei, who were just too strong for the Blue Cagers.

India, taking part in the competition for the first time since their relegation from the top division in 2021, started with a big win over Kazakhstan after a massive turnaround in the second half. Pushpa Senthil Kumar top scored for the Eves with 23 points while Sreekala Rani and Sathya Krishnamurthi also made notable contributions with 15 points each, including six rebounds and seven assists.

However, India’s joy ride soon ended when they faced the aggressive Chinese Taipei, who brushed aside their opponents with a humiliating 83-39 victory. Taipei will then go on to beat Kazakhstan 91-47 in their final group game to confirm their place in the semis.

In their final match, India bulldozed past Tahiti 78-55 to confirm a second-place finish in the group ahead of Kazakhstan, who ended on four points after two defeats in three matches. India earned five points to finish second, while Taipei topped with six points.
