India hosts its first-ever SABA Club Championship 2025 in Chennai.

India makes basketball history as its marks its first-ever South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Club Championship tips off at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. The six-day tournament which will take place from April 2-7, marking the first time India is hosting any international club competition in basketball.

The national champions from six South Asian countries—India, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka—will compete for regional supremacy and the potential opportunity to play in the upcoming FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL) Final 8 in May.

In 2022, the WASL was implemented to amplify basketball in Asia through regional competitive pathways and has attracted clubs from West Asia and the Gulf, and recently, clubs from South Asia were included. Simultaneously, following the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup for 2021, the FIBA Asia Cup and continental championships have taken on a qualification format.

The FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL) Final 8 for 2025 is set to begin in May, but the exact dates and venue are yet to be confirmed. This tournament isn’t just about regional glory, but it also acts as a gateway to the Basketball Champions League Asia. In the past, Doha, Qatar, has hosted this big event. When and where will SABA Club Championship 2025 take place?

The first-ever SABA Club Championship 2025 will be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The tournament is scheduled to be played from April 2-7.
