Kolkata and Maharashtra have been announced as the hosts for the Youth (U16) and Sub-Junior (U13) Championships.
Following the Basketball Federation of India (BFI)’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on June 8 in Chennai, several crucial decisions were made regarding the upcoming 2024-25 season.
As per Ekalavyas, the body decided on several key issues including venues, the domestic league and more..
Venue Announcements
According to reports, Bhavnagar, Gujarat, will host the Senior National Basketball Championship in January 2025.
Kolkata and Maharashtra have been announced as the hosts for the Youth (U16) and Sub-Junior (U13) Championships respectively, to be held later this year.
The exact dates for these events are yet to be announced.
National Basketball League
According to a report from the Times of India, the open bidding for the National Basketball League tender rights will take place on June 25. This announcement comes despite a stay on the opening of bids, secured via a Karnataka civil court order
Player Remuneration
According to The Hindu, BFI President Aadhav Arjuna has expressed the possibility of implementing a fixed remuneration structure for all players who are part of the national team camps by the end of the year.
New Coach for 3×3 Teams
Highlighting the rise of 3×3 as a distinct format, it is reported that BFI will appoint a separate coach for India’s 3×3 teams. The coach is said to be from Serbia and the appointment is likely to be confirmed within a month.
Potential Partnership
According to reports, following BFI’s partnership with Manipal University earlier this year, it is likely that Corvuss American Academy, an international boarding school for student-athletes located in Karjat, near Mumbai, founded by former international basketball player Kunal Maria, will be on-boarded as the federation’s next ‘National Basketball Academy.’
