Canelo Alvarez vs William Scull Payouts: How much did the boxers get paid? Reported & estimated salaries

Canelo Alvarez made the most out of the fight
As of 2025, Canelo Alvarez isn’t just one of the biggest names in boxing. He’s also one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. His incredible success in the ring has caught the attention of Turki Alalshikh, who’s been making big moves in the boxing world.
So much so that he signed Canelo to a four-fight deal as part of the Riyadh Season. The first fight under that deal took place on Saturday at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was a huge moment, not just for Canelo, but for the future of boxing on this growing stage.
Cuba’s Scull, who had a height and reach advantage over Alvarez, was unable to counter the Mexican’s systematic stalking and effective body shots, suffering his first professional boxing loss. After all three judges gave him the win (115-113, 116-112, 119-109), Alvarez remarked in his post-fight interview that it was a “boring fight.”
Alvarez, who was stripped of his IBF title last year for choosing to fight Edgar Berlanga over the sanctioning body’s number one contender Scull, is now the undisputed 168-pound champion for the second time.
Canelo Alvarez’s estimated purse
While the exact sum that Canelo would receive against Cuban William Scull has not been officially released, but online sources estimate it to be $80 million (INR 676 crore) based on the deal he signed with Turki Al-Sheikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia.
With this amount, Canelo would have completed one of the most lucrative contracts in boxing history, but he is still a long way from the $650 million that Floyd Mayweather Jr. got for his exhibition fights against Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor, the current mark in boxing.
William Scull estimated purse
For William Scull, the fight against Alvarez was the pinnacle of his career. Industry estimates suggest that the IBF champion will earn between $3 million (INR 25.37 crore) and $5 million (INR 42.28 crore). It’s a life-changing figure for a boxer who previously had little attention outside of extreme boxing circles.
Scull’s payoff came after Alvarez first refused to face him as a mandatory challenger, leading to Canelo being stripped of his IBF championship. Scull was then given the option to unify titles in Saudi Arabia, which would not have been feasible without the financial backing of the Saudi deal.
Regardless of the outcome, Scull leaves Riyadh with global exposure and a multimillion-dollar reward, which will put him up for life and maybe open other paths for future big-money fights.
