For Barrios, this marks the fourth defense of his WBC crown. The champion retained his belt in July 2025 through a majority draw against Manny Pacquiao, a result that split opinion.
While Barrios showed championship grit down the stretch, the 46-year-old Pacquiao outlanded him in power punches, raising legitimate questions about the titleholder’s sharpness at 147 pounds. A decisive performance here would silence doubts and reaffirm his standing atop the division.
Garcia enters with urgency. His May 2025 loss to Rolando Romero halted momentum at a critical juncture, following the overturning of his 2024 victory over Devin Haney due to a positive VADA test for Ostarine. Determined to reset the narrative, Garcia enrolled early in VADA testing for this camp, ensuring full WBC sanctioning as he pursues his first major world title.
The undercard adds further stakes. Richardson Hitchins defends his IBF super lightweight title against Oscar Duarte, Gary Antuanne Russell faces Andy Hiraoka for the WBA super lightweight belt, Frank Martin meets Nahir Albright, and Bektemir Melikuziev takes on Sena Agbeko at super middleweight.
With divisional credibility, redemption arcs and multiple championships in play, Las Vegas once again serves as the sport’s proving ground.
