Chantelle Cameron defends her crown on home soil as boxing’s biggest women’s rivalry heads to Birmingham for MVPW 06.
The British star puts her WBO super welterweight title on the line against America’s Mikaela Mayer, who arrives with the unified WBA and WBC straps, in a champion-vs-champion unification showdown at the bp pulse LIVE arena on Saturday, August 29.
Three world titles will be up for grabs when the pair collide in a 10-round contest, with the winner taking a huge step towards undisputed status at 154lbs. Cameron, a former undisputed super lightweight queen who famously beat Katie Taylor in Dublin, claimed the WBO belt with a dominant win over Michaela Kotaskova in April and immediately called for the biggest fight available.
Mayer, unbeaten since back-to-back split-decision defeats in the UK, moved up in weight to unify the WBA and WBC titles with a unanimous decision over Mary Spencer last October and has made no secret of wanting Cameron’s name on her resume.
Both fighters have promised fireworks. Mayer has predicted a “Fight of the Year” contender given their shared come-forward styles, while Cameron insists the toughest challenge will bring out the best version of herself. With Katie Taylor set to retire, the winner in Birmingham will have a strong claim to being the sport’s top female star.
The stacked boxing card, billed MVPW-06: UK vs USA, is promoted by Most Valuable Promotions and features an entire main card of UK-versus-USA women’s contests, alongside a mixed undercard.

While the headline act is a battle of nations in the women’s ranks, India’s own Neeraj Goyat is the lone fighter from the country on the entire card. Goyat (20-4-2, 9 KOs), the country’s top-ranked professional boxer, features on the preliminary card in a six-round super lightweight bout against Germany’s Yessin Koulai (8-1, 3 KOs), who will be making his international debut.
It marks another high-profile outing for Goyat, who has previously shared a ring with the likes of Amir Khan on the global stage, and he will be hoping to give India something to cheer about from Birmingham.
