Oleksandr Usyk is all set to face Tyson Fury in an exciting rematch
The first meeting between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk in May was a night to remember. Held at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the bout saw Fury enter as the WBC heavyweight champion, while Usyk brought the WBO, WBA, and IBF titles to the table.
Both men boasted unbeaten records Tyson Fury at 34-0-1 and Usyk at a perfect 21-0. The two delivered one of the most exciting heavyweight clashes in recent memory, with the judges awarding a split decision to Usyk after 12 closely contested rounds.
The victory made Usyk the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in 1999. When the dust settled, Usyk’s record stood at 22-0, while Fury suffered the first loss of his career, dropping to 34-1-1. Usyk left the ring that night with all four major heavyweight titles—the WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF—cementing his place in boxing history.
But his time as the undisputed champion would be short-lived. Following their thrilling first encounter, Fury quickly activated the rematch clause in their contract, setting the stage for a second showdown. Usyk, however, faced a dilemma.
The IBF ordered him to defend their belt against mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois whom Usyk already knocked out in August 2023. Hoping to focus on the rematch with Fury, Usyk requested to retain the IBF title for their second meeting, but the governing body refused.
Rather than be stripped of the belt, Usyk made the decision to voluntarily vacate the IBF title, announcing it via video.
Oleksandr Usyk’s age
Oleksandr Usyk was born in Simferopol, Crimean Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union on January 17, 1987, making him 37 years old right now.
