In the Classic Round, the two players get 90 minutes for the first 40 moves and 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move for each player from move 1. The two games of the Classic Round are usually enough to decide who wins the prestigious tournament. But, in case of points being shared in both games or each player securing a win, a third game will be played as a Tie Breaks in the third day.
The Tie Breaks involve chess games of the Rapid and the Blitz rounds and are played on the third day, as aforesaid. The two players first play two rapid rounds, with 25 minutes each and a 10-second increment per move per player. If the two players can’t be separated still, another couple of rapid rounds of 10 minutes each and a 10-second increment per move per player is played.
In case of ties, the players now will play two blitz rounds of five minutes with three seconds added per move per player. And finally, if the players are still level on points, a single blitz round is played for three minutes with two seconds added per move per player. To decide who takes the White, a random draw is conducted.
If the results again remain undecided, the players switch the colors and play the blitz round again with the same timings. The colour is switched continuously until the final results are out. All the tiebreaker games are played on the same day, the third day.
