All you need to know about prize money on offer at FIDE World Chess Championship 2024

The total prize fund provided for the FIDE World Chess Championship final is 2.5 million US Dollars.
The FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match. The first player between Gukesh and Ding Liren to reach 7.5 points will be the winner. But in case both players are tied on points after 14 games, tiebreaks (matches in faster time control) will be played the next day to decide the winner.
The 2024 edition of the FIDE World Chess Championship is witnessing two Asians battle it out for the crown for the first time ever.
The youngest World Chess Championship challenger in history, India’s D Gukesh, did everything in his power to secure a win against reigning champion Ding Liren of China. However, the Chinese grandmaster showcased his exceptional defensive skills, holding Gukesh to a draw in the 13th game of the 2024 World Chess Championship, held at the Resort World Sentosa in Singapore on Wednesday.
The scoreline is tied at 6.5-6.5 after 13 rounds with just one more game remaining in this Championship. Ding will have the white pieces for one last time on Thursday. If the championship is tied after 14 rounds, it will go to a shorter time format in the tie-break.

What is the prize money of FIDE World Chess Championship 2024?
The total prize fund for the World Championship match is $2.5 million. There will be specific distribution of these funds based on game outcomes. Each player will receive $2,00,000 (approximately Rs 1.68 crore) for each game they win.
The remaining prize money will be split equally between the players. If the winner is decided on a tie-break, the prize money will be divided as follows: the winner receives $13,00,000 (approximately Rs 10.9 crore), and the runner-up receives $12,00,000 (approximately Rs 10.1 crore).
If the final score is 7.5:6.5 with 13 decisive games or 8:6 with 14 decisive games, the prize money shall be divided as follows: the winner receives $13,00,000 (approximately Rs 10.9 crore), and the runner-up receives $12,00,000 (approximately Rs 10.1 crore).
