The Clutch Chess Champions Showdown 2025 is set to take place from October 27 to 29. The newly upgraded Saint Louis Chess Club in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, will serve as the host.
The facility reopened in October after a massive renovation and expansion. The U.S. Championships and the Legends Exhibition also took place earlier this month as part of its reopening celebration.
The tournament will witness the participation of World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen, World No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura, World No. 3 Fabiano Caruana, and World Champion D Gukesh.
Notably, Caruana is heading into the Clutch Chess Champions Showdown after winning his fifth U.S. Championship title.
Meanwhile, Gukesh will look to fine-tune himself for the Chess World Cup 2025, scheduled to begin on October 31 in Goa. It will be interesting to see his game plan against Carlsen and Nakamura, who have been his fierce competitors this year.

The competition will follow a nine-round, 18-game format comprising three double round-robin rounds, which will be played with a rapid time control of 10 mins 5 sec. The players will earn more points in each round-robin as the tournament progresses.
A win will be worth one point on Day 1, two points on Day 2, and three points on Day 3. The players starting slowly can make a dramatic comeback in the subsequent days with this format.
In case of a 2-player tie, a single Armageddon game will be played and the black will be announced as the winner in case of a draw. Meanwhile, in a 3 or 4-player tie, a round robin armageddon competition will be played among players.

The total prize fund for the Clutch Chess Champions Showdown 2025 is $412,000. 340,000 of the total amount is split based on the playerâs standings from first to fourth.
