Sohail Khan felicitated for historic medal at Kudo World Cup

Sohail Khan becomes the first Indian male to reach the Kudo World Cup final.

On the occasion of the 166th Income Tax Day celebrated in Mumbai, Sohail Khan was felicitated for his historic silver medal at the Kudo World Cup 2025. The honour was presented by the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, C. P. Radhakrishnan, who congratulated Sohail and wished him the very best for his upcoming international tournaments.

The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Mumbai Region), Smt. Malathi R. Sridharan graced the event with her presence as the chief guest on this special occasion. The event reflected a strong sense of national pride and recognized the efforts of individuals contributing to India’s success in public service and international sports.

“It’s an absolute honour to be recognised on such a prestigious platform and to receive this felicitation from the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra. Moments like these strengthen my resolve to represent India with pride on the international stage. I’m deeply grateful for the support and encouragement, and I remain committed to giving my best in every tournament ahead,” Sohail Khan said.

Sohail Khan recently clinched a historic silver medal in the Men’s -250P category at the Kudo World Cup 2025, held in Bulgaria. He became the first Indian male to reach the final and also registered India’s best-ever finish in the senior men’s division in the showpiece event.

The Golden Boy of Madhya Pradesh received a walkover in the Round of 16 after his opponent, Abdulla, missed the weight requirement. He defeated Bulgaria’s Rusev Radoslav 1-0 and Lithuania’s Andzej Voinius 4-0 in the quarter-final and semi-final bouts, respectively, to advance to the final.

The 25-year-old was up against France’s Quentin Miramont in the final bout. After an intense battle in the first two rounds, the fight was forced into a rare third round, where Sohail fell short despite his resilient performance.

Following a short break, Sohail Khan has resumed his training for the national trials, scheduled to take place in early August. His eyes are set on the Asia Oceania Kudo Championships, which will be held in Japan this November.
