India clinched its first medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026, courtesy of Jhandu Kumar’s bronze in para-powerlifting on Friday (July 24). The nation is also assured of another medal in boxing, with Lovlina Borgohain receiving a direct entry into the semi-finals of the women’s 75kg category, guaranteeing her at least a bronze.

On Friday, the lawn bowls contingent gave great performances, while Jadumani Singh also advanced to the round of 16 with a convincing 5-0 win. Birmingham Games gold medalist duo Pinki & Rupa Rani Tirkey secured another victory, this time over South Africa, while Putul Sonowal secured a thrilling tiebreak triumph.

On Saturday, the pair of Tirkey and Pinky will face Tongo’s Paris Baker and Milika Nathan. Sachin Siwach will face Canada’s Keoma Al-Ahmadieh. The team of Pranati Nayak, Nishka Agarwal, Eshitaa Rewale, and Protistha Samanta will also be in action.

Srihari Nataraj will compete in the Men’s 50m Backstroke event, while Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra will feature in the Men’s 400m Freestyle. Laxmi Rayannavar, Ritu Irengbam, Reena Gupta, and Minakshi Jadhav will also face Wales in the Pool B game of 3×3 wheelchair basketball.
