How did Pakistan perform at Commonwealth Games 2026?

Pakistan concluded the Glasgow Games with just one medal.
Pakistan wrapped up a forgettable Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign in Glasgow with a solitary bronze medal, finishing 34th in the overall standings (after Day 9), marking one of the worst returns for the Asian nation in recent memory.
The lone medal came courtesy of boxer Fatima Zahra, who fought her way to bronze in the women’s 60 kg category. Zahra, who had also carried the baton at the opening ceremony, beat Lesotho’s Segoete by stoppage before edging past New Zealand’s Wilson 5-0 to reach the semi-finals.
She eventually lost to Al-Ahmadieh of Canada and had to settle for bronze medal. Still, reaching the podium marked a historic moment, as Zahra became the first-ever female Pakistani to win a medal in boxing at the Commonwealth Games.
The biggest disappointment was reigning Commonwealth javelin champion Arshad Nadeem. The Paris Olympics gold medallist and Pakistan’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremony crashed out after the first three rounds of the final, managing just 77.41 m to finish in ninth place.
None of Pakistan’s other athletes could make a mark, with Muhammad Yasir failing to advance past javelin qualifying and the rest of the track-and-field contingent finishing well down the order.
The bowls pairs lost all their group matches, the lone gymnast and judoka didn’t progress beyond qualification, and the four-strong swimming team failed to trouble the top 20 in any event.
Having won 8 medals in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, including 2 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze, this performance by the 21-member contingent at the 2026 Games requires serious introspection.
Although several key events did not take place this time, countries like India still managed to make the most of the available opportunities.
Pakistan will be hoping that their athletes perform better at the Asian Games, which will start in a few weeks, so they do not face further embarrassment.
