India secured a double podium finish in the men’s shot put F57 final at the CWG 2026.
India’s Soman Rana bagged the gold while Shubham Juyal clinched silver in the men’s shot put F57 final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Saturday, August 1.
The para athletics event was held at the EDF Scotstoun Stadium, with India fielding two athletes in the F57 seated shot put category. Both Soman and Shubham made their Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow, securing a podium finish for India.
Rana recorded the best throw of 14.07m and 13.40m in the final to secure gold. On the other hand, Juyal also recorded a throw of 13.28m to secure silver in the competition, representing India against a strong international field.
The F57 classification features athletes with lower limb impairments competing in seated throwing events. The discipline requires a combination of explosive power, technique and consistency to achieve maximum distance.
Soman entered the competition as one of the leading contenders in the field. The Indian para athlete came into the final with a personal best of 15.17m, the best mark among the competitors.
Rana, who has previously won medals at major international competitions, added a Commonwealth Games gold medal to his career achievements. However, his best throw of 14.07m saw him finish first in the final.
Meanwhile, Shubham also produced a strong campaign in his Commonwealth Games debut. The Indian Army athlete has emerged as one of India’s promising names in the F57 category after making rapid progress in para athletics.
Juyal entered the competition with a personal best of 14.86m and looked to challenge the leading athletes in Glasgow.
