CWG 2026 Closing Ceremony: Shankar Mahadevan, Bhoomi Trivedi to lead 2030 Ahmedabad Games handover

Several renowned artists will perform at the CWG 2026 closing ceremony.

The curtain comes down on the Commonwealth Games 2026 on August 2 (Sunday), with a closing ceremony at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.

It also serves as India’s official welcome party as the next host nation. The 2030 edition moves to Ahmedabad, and organisers have built a special 20-minute “handover segment” into the night to mark it.

Scotland’s own Simple Minds headline the closing show, backed by homegrown acts Cammy Barnes, Sandi Thom, BEMZ and Elephant Sessions.

Australian singer Delta Goodrem returns to a Commonwealth stage two decades after Melbourne 2006, and Bollywood star Rashmika Mandanna is also expected to make an appearance.

The India segment is the real centrepiece. Shankar Mahadevan leads the charge, joined by his sons Siddharth and Shivam, former Miss World Manushi Chhillar and playback singer Bhoomi Trivedi.

Sitar player Rishab Rikhiram Sharma is set to share the stage with Scottish piper Ross Ainslie for a classical meets bagpipes moment symbolising the shift from Glasgow to Ahmedabad.

The performance will unfold in three parts, starting with a tribute marking 150 years of Vande Mataram, then moving into the India-Scotland musical fusion, and closing with a big tribute to Gujarat, the state hosting the 2030 Games.

India will be hoping to end the Commonwealth Games 2026 on a high. The country currently finds itself in tenth position at the end of Day 7, with 17 medals including 3 gold, 10 silver and 4 bronze.

Mirabai Chanu opened the account with gold in weightlifting, and athletics has been the strongest department, with Gulveer Singh, Murali Sreeshankar and Sarvesh Kushare all picking up silvers.

There is still a lot to play for, with nearly 10 boxers already assured of medals, and Neeraj Chopra set to feature in the javelin throw finals.
