Which Olympic medallists will represent India at Commonwealth Games 2026?

The Commonwealth Games 2026 will begin on July 23.
India started participating in the Commonwealth Games in 1934, when the event was called the British Empire Games. In that specific edition, the Indian contingent had only six athletes, and wrestler Rashid Anwar became the country’s first medallist.
After emancipation, India made their first appearance at the multi-sport event in 1954, where they failed to win any medals. Four years later, they won three medals, out of which two were gold, courtesy of Milka Singh and Lila Ram. Since then, they have participated in every edition except in 1962 and 1986.
During the last edition in 2022 in Birmingham, Indian athletes won 61 medals, including 22 golds. The last edition also included sports in which India have the calibre to win multiple medals, such as table tennis and badminton. However, in Glasgow, sports such as shooting, badminton, table tennis, and squash are again missing.
The IOC has sent a contingent of 125 athletes to Glasgow, a few of whom are Olympic medallists. Those specific players will be the nation’s top hopes of winning a medal at the multi-sport event.

Neeraj Chopra – Athletics
Neeraj Chopra has won two Olympic medals. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he became the first Indian track and field athlete to win a gold medal. Four years later, he won his second medal, a silver, to become one of the most decorated Olympians from the subcontinent.
Lovlina Borgohain – Boxing
During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Lovlina Borgohain became only the third Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal, after Vijender Singh and Mary Kom.
Mirabai Chanu – Weightlifting
Mirabai Chanu won India’s second weightlifting medal at the Olympics. She won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
