Top 10 Indian stars who will enter IPL 2025 mega auction
Some top Indian cricketers, including captains, have been released before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
On October 31, all 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) teams submitted their retention list ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. This year, each team had the option to retain up to six players – with a maximum of five capped and a maximum of two uncapped – before heading to the auction. Every team will have a purse of INR 120 crore to build their squad.
While a majority of the teams have retained their core players, some teams have released a few big names before the auction.
Much limelight is given to foreign players in the IPL, but Indian players usually form the core of any title-winning team. In this article we will look at the top 10 Indian stars who will enter the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
Top 10 Indian players who will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction
10. Deepak Chahar
Chennai Super Kings have decided not to retain Deepak Chahar for IPL 2025, though they can use the Right To Match (RTM) option on the seamer in the auction. Deepak joined CSK in 2018 and has been an integral part of the Yellow Army’s success.
Injuries and workload management have been a big concern for Deepak. The bowling all-rounder has missed a lot of games in the last few seasons due to injuries. Hailed for swing movement with the new ball, Deepak can attract a lot of interest in the upcoming auction.
9. Shardul Thakur
Another fast-bowling all-rounder that CSK have released is Shardul Thakur. Thakur played for CSK in nine games last season. He was, however, often behind Deepak Chahar and Tushar Deshpande in CSK’s pecking order among Indian bowlers.
Having represented KKR, RPSG and CSK, Shardul has vast experience of playing on different pitches in the IPL. CSK have one RTM card in their kitty that they can use on Shardul.
8. Arshdeep Singh
One of India’s heroes at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Arshdeep Singh would be up for grabs in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction as he’s surprisingly been released by Punjab Kings.
Arshdeep was excellent for Punjab Kings last season, picking up 19 wickets in 14 games. Arshdeep is known for his excellent execution with both the new ball in the powerplay and the old ball in the death overs. Having the apparent advantage of being a left-arm pacer, he can get massive bids at the mega auction.
7. Yuzvendra Chahal
With 205 wickets, statistically the most successful IPL bowler of all time, Yuzvendra Chahal has been released by the Rajasthan Royals. RR decided to retain six players, which means that the franchise doesn’t have any RTM cards left for the auction.
Chahal is a proven wicket-taker in the IPL. Having played on batting-friendly tracks like Chinnaswamy Stadium, Chahal excels in T20 bowling. Chahal’s name in the auction will surely trigger a bidding war between the teams.
6. Mohammed Siraj
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have not retained Mohammed Siraj and the seamer will be available in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Siraj was RCB’s second most successful bowler last season with 15 wickets to his name.
Siraj represented RCB for seven seasons after joining the franchise in 2018. Siraj is often criticised for his death bowling, however, he could be lethal with the new ball and make decisive dents early on. It would be interesting to see if RCB will use their RTM card for their long-serving fast bowler.
5. Mohammed Shami
India’s fast bowling star Mohammed Shami has been let go by the 2022 IPL champions, Gujarat Titans. Shami missed the whole IPL 2024 season due to an ankle injury.
Shami was the key to Gujarat’s IPL 2022 winning campaign, picking up 20 wickets in 17 games. Shami’s ability to run through the batting order with the new ball along with his excellent execution in the death overs will attract interest for him in the mega auction.
4. Ishan Kishan
Wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan has been released by five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Mumbai bought Kishan for a whopping INR 15.25 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Kishan’s performance last year was not up to expectations as the left-hander managed 320 runs in 14 league games. Being an attacking opener and a wicket-keeper makes him valuable for any team in the competition and he is expected to be sold for a hefty sum in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
3. Shreyas Iyer
In a shocking move, defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders have released their captain Shreyas Iyer before the IPL 2025 mega auction. Iyer was the glue to Kolkata’s destructive batting lineup last year, playing the anchor role whenever required.
Under his leadership, KKR clinched the trophy after 10 years after finishing at the top of the points table in the league stage. Shreyas’ ability to build an innings and dominate the spinners will make him a hot commodity on the auction table.
2. KL Rahul
Lucknow Super Giants have decided to part ways with their captain KL Rahul. The classy right-hander was in the firing line last season for his outdated batting approach as he managed a strike rate of 136.
Rahul has demonstrated his excellence in the IPL on various occasions, which included winning the prestigious orange cap in the 2020 season and regularly piling up over 500 runs in the last few years. Rahul would be a lucrative option for multiple teams for the opening slot and captaincy role.
1. Rishabh Pant
One of India’s biggest match winners, Rishabh Pant has been released by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Rishabh was the captain of the Delhi-based franchise last year and has been with them since 2016, that is all his IPL career.
Pant was one of Delhi’s most successful batters last year with 446 runs in the season. With his destructive ability in the middle-order as a batsman, his security as a wicket-keeper and his experience of captaincy, Pant will fit well in most teams in the competition. That should help him attract a handsome amount in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
