2 Indian cricketers who got demoted in BCCI central contracts 2023-24

BCCI has included 30 Indian cricketers in central contracts for 2023-24.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 30 player list for the annual central contracts for season 2023-24. BCCI took some harsh decision and ousted Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from the central contracts. Meanwhile, a total of 11 players earned their maiden contracts.

The BCCI has included four players in highest tier, Grade A+. Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja are part of the Grade A+, who will earn 7 crores + match fees in the season. The board has also decided to promote a few players and demote two players from the previous annual contracts. Let’s have a look at the 2 players who got demoted in BCCI central contracts for 2023-24 season.

Here are two Indian cricketers who got demoted in BCCI central contracts 2023-24:

Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant is among the one to be demoted by BCCI in the central contracts for season 2023-24. Rishabh Pant, who was in Grade A for 2022-23, has been demoted to Grade B. Earlier in 2022-23, Pant used to earn 5 crores and match fees, now he will earn 3 crores and match fees until 30th September, 2024. The main reason of Pant being demoted might be because he has been away from the cricketing action since he suffered a horrifying accident in December 2022.

With Pant set to make a comeback in IPL 2024, and given his stature in Indian cricket so far, he might get promoted again to Grade A next year.

2. Axar Patel (Grade A to B):

All-rounder Axar Patel also has been demoted from Grade A to Grade B in BCCI central contracts for 2023-24. Axar was part of Grade A list in the last season in 2022-23 and used to earn 5 crores + match fees in the period, but now he will earn 3 crores + match fees till 30th September 2024. Axar Patel was a regular member of Indian side across formats in the previous season, that’s why he was listed in Grade A, but him not getting constant chances in the playing XI in any of the format might be one of the reasons of him being demoted.

Axar Patel got injured during the Asia Cup 2023 and had to miss the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as well, and after that, he has been finding it hard to get included in India’s playing XI in all three formats.
