Brendon McCullum’s exit has left England searching for a new Test head coach.

The England Cricket Board (ECB) is currently looking for a new head coach in the Test format. They recently announced the sacking of Brendon McCullum as the head coach of their Test team following a series of underwhelming performances. McCullum, however, will continue to serve as the head coach of the team in the white-ball formats.

With both Ben Stokes and McCullum out, the team will need a new captain and a new coach, a duo that will lead the team in their next challenges. A few names have surfaced as potential candidates for the role of the new head coach of the England Test team.

3. Ravi Shastri

Ravi Shastri could be considered for the post of head coach. Shastri has been credited for the golden generation of the Indian Test team during his tenure as the head coach of India. The Indian Cricket Team dominated under his leadership as they won all their home series and secured two back-to-back Border-Gavaskar Trophy victories on Australian soil.

Shastri is known for his aggressive nature and could be the perfect replacement for Brendon McCullum. As the England team goes through a transition, there may be no better coach for this role than Ravi Shastri, who knows how to handle a young team.

2. Rahul Dravid

Another legend who could be seen as England’s Test head coach is the Wall of Cricket, Rahul Dravid. Dravid has earned the reputation of being a Test specialist, and he had a wonderful career, scoring more than 13,000 Test runs.

As brilliant a player as he was, he was also an incredible coach for the India, ending their ICC trophy drought when they lifted the 2024 T20 World Cup under his leadership. He brings calmness to the management and is the perfect candidate for the coaching role of the England Test team.

The major name that is coming forward at the moment is of Ravi Ashwin. According to several reports, there have already been a few meetings between the England Cricket Board and Ashwin in the United States of America, where he is currently playing in Major League Cricket (MLC) for his team, the San Francisco Unicorns. Ashwin is known for his cricketing brain, and following his retirement, he has been active on social media, especially on YouTube, posting videos analysing cricket matches from around the world.
