3 Major cricketing events to be played in 2024

Three ICC cricketing events will be played in the calendar year 2024.

The calendar year 2023 witnessed a total of four major cricketing events including three major ICC events starting with the Women’s T20 World Cup played in South Africa in February and March. Then a few months later, the ICC World Test Championship Final was played at The Oval in England between India and Australia. At almost the end of the year India hosted the game’s most prestigious and glorious award ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which comes after every four years. Australia won all three ICC tournaments in the year 2023.

While in the ACC Asia Cup, India emerged victorious defeating Sri Lanka in the final of the 6-team tournament to clinch their seventh ODI Asia Cup title.

The Upcoming year of 2024 offers viewers delight as three ICC events are scheduled in 2024 as well. A major shift will also take place in the ICC tournaments with the number of teams set to be increased in the ICC T20 World Cup in West Indies. 20 teams will be taking part in a major ICC main event for the first time in the history with new hosts added to the list, the United States of America. Let’s have a look at the major ICC events set to take place in the year 2024.

1. ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024 in South Africa:

In January 2024, South Africa will be hosting the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. South Africa was awarded the hosting rights after ICC decided to suspend Sri Lanka Cricket during the World Cup 2023. Initially, Sri Lanka was picked as hosts of the youth mega event, but ICC’s suspension saw the tournament get shifted from Sri Lanka to South Africa. The under-19 World Cup will begin on 19th January with group round games and the final of the tournament will be played on 11th February at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.

2. ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and USA:

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA will be the 9th edition of the mega event in cricket’s shortest format. For the first time in history, the United States of America will be hosting a major ICC event. West Indies hosted the T20 World Cup in 2010, which was won by England. In another major change, 20 teams will be participating in the tournament. The tournament is set to commence on 4th June while the final will be played on 30th June 2024 at Bridgetown in Barbados.

3. ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh:

Just two months after the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA, Bangladesh will be hosting the women’s edition of the T20 World Cup in September and October. The upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup will be the 9th edition of the tournament. Bangladesh will be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup for the second time. This will be a 10 team event where eight teams already have been finalised, while two remaining spots to be filled through the Global Qualifier tournament.
