3 players who were unlucky to miss out on India's ODI squad against England

Several prominent players have been overlooked for India’s ODI squad against England.
After a 3-0 series win over Afghanistan in an ODI series, Indian Cricket Team’s next assignment in the 50-over format is against England. The two heavyweights are scheduled to clash in three ODI games next month, with the matches set to be played on July 14, 17, and 20.
On Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the India squad that will take on England in the ODI series. Captain Shubman Gill will have a big challenge in front of him as England are dominant at their home. He was extremely successful as a captain in the test tour last year, ending a five-match series in a 2-2 draw.
While senior members like Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, and Virat Kohli have returned to the squad after missing the ODI series against Afghanistan, a few other deserving players were not considered for the series due to various reasons. On that note, below are three Indian players left out of India’s squad from the ODI series against England.
3 unlucky players who missed selection in India’s ODI squad for England series
3. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja has been amongst the most experienced all-rounder for India ODIs. He has announced his retirement from T20Is but has been consistently playing ODIs and Tests. The spin all-rounder didn’t play in the previous campaign against Afghanistan and has been overlooked for the England ODIs as well.
Jadeja played in the Indian Premier League 2026 for Rajasthan Royals (RR) and gave a decent performance. He suffered tennis elbow and a minor knee niggle towards the end of the tournament but has recovered from the issue. His absence from the England series has been attributed to workload management and selection strategies by the selectors.
2. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj featured in the one-off test against Afghanistan earlier this month. He was named in the squad for T20Is against Ireland and England, but was release from the squad. He was advised by the medical team to manage his workload and skip the T20Is. However, there is no clarity was he was left out from ODIs.
Siraj was part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 from February to March, in which he warmed the bench for the majority of the season. Later, he had a rigorous two months in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with Gujarat Titans (GT), rocking the field with his performance.
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal is one player whose absence from England ODIs has confused many fans due to his stunning show with the bat recently. Jaiswal hammered a ton in the IND vs AFG 3rd ODI in a chase. He also scored a century in the ODI series against South Africa last year and has scored two tons in six games so far.
Despite his impeccable show in his short stint in the 50-over format, Jaiswal has been snubbed for the England ODIs due to huge competition for the top order.
Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are the two opening batsmen for India at the moment and there’s no vacancy for Jaiswal, who also plays only as an opener. In Virat Kohli’s absence, the left-handed batter was named in the Afghanistan ODIs, however; after the former returned for the England tour, Jaiswal was dropped from the squad.
