Cricket Australia are keen to host Ashes Test on Indian soil

The possibility of an Ashes Test being played in India has become one of the biggest discussions in world cricket after Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said the idea is “open to consideration.” At the same time, there are no official plans yet as it is just an idea that would be discussed with other stakeholders.

The Ashes has always been played either in England or Australia since the rivalry began in 1882. However, Cricket Australia (CA) is already set to bring the Big Bash League (BBL) to Chennai later this year.

If England and Australia ever agree to play a Test on Indian soil, the venue choice will be one of the biggest decisions. The Stadium must have good crowd capacity, reliable broadcast facilities, strong pitch quality and, most importantly, the right atmosphere for a historic Test match.

Three Indian grounds that stand out more for such historic games: Dharamshala, Bengaluru and Wankhede. Each of these stadiums brings a different feel, and each one has its benefits of hosting the special England vs Australia Test in India.

3. M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is one of India’s crowd-pulling venues and has hosted more than 26 Test matches. It has a seating capacity of around 40,000 spectators, and the venue has hosted several major international games.

Unlike many Indian grounds, Bengaluru often offers assistance to fast bowlers early because of the weather. The excellent drainage system also means very little playing time is lost due to rain.

Chinnaswamy Stadium is combined; with its modern infrastructure and lovely crowd, it would be a strong candidate for an Ashes Test.

2. Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Wankhede Stadium has hosted over 29 Test matches and remains one of India’s most iconic cricket grounds. Wankhede has a seating capacity of around 33,000 spectators, and it has a huge history and is one of the most exciting venues for Test cricket in India.

The surface at Wankhede usually offers movement with the new ball, but as the game progresses, it gradually helps batters a lot. The balanced nature of Wankhede makes idea venue for a historic game between England and Australia.

1. HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala

Dharamsala is one of the venues that feels closest to traditional English or Australian conditions. The HPCA Stadium has hosted 2 Test matches, and it is situated at an altitude of around 1450 metres.

The venue is known for its pace and bounce, and it would be a perfect venue for a one-off Ashes Test. Dharamsala has a seating capacity of around 23,000 people, but it’s a lovely venue where both players and fans are gonna enjoy the Ashes Test.
