National selection committee will select India squad for T20 World Cup 2024 based on IPL 2024 performances.

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has certainly rocked the world, and fans are getting their money’s worth. Some big records have already shattered, and we might see this season breaking some more all-time records. Some uncapped Indian names, like Mayank Yadav, Shanshank Singh, Yash Thakur, Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and others have forced the cricket fraternity to notice their names.

But there are some Indian stars who are in the probables for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 who have disappointed so far. Notably, Team India don’t have any international assignments ahead of the upcoming ICC event.

The Indian players will only feature in the ongoing IPL 2024, and their performances will be taken into consideration while selecting the team. The selection is likely to take place in first week of May. Hence, some Indian players need to do well if they don’t want to be dropped from the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Here are the three T20 World Cup probable Indian cricketers who might be dropped after failing in IPL 2024:

3. Jitesh Sharma

Jitesh Sharma got chances in India’s T20I side because of what he did for Punjab Kings in the last two seasons. Ishan Kishan was not available, Rishabh Pant was injured, and Jitesh played a number of games as the first-choice wicket-keeper in T20Is. His ability to play important cameos at the backend, made him one of the front-runners for a place in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

However, his performances in the IPL 2024 aren’t looking good. He has only scored 77 runs in five innings. If he keeps on failing like this, the door for him might be closed. However, Pant’s return can be another factor.

2. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj has been India’s go-to bowler across formats for the last couple of years. He has done an exceptional job for India. But in this duration, he hasn’t played many T20Is. Though he is the likely to be the partner of Jasrit Bumrah in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, his current form can be a big headache for him.

Siraj has taken only four wickets in five matches in the IPL 2024 and conceded runs at a higher economy rate of 10.10. If it goes like this, then there are chances that the selectors will have to find another option to partner with Bumrah.

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal entered the IPL 2024 with a Player of the Series performance in the five-match test series against England at home. With two double centuries, he scored more than 600 runs alone, which almost guaranteed him a place in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to open with Rohit Sharma. But his form in the ongoing IPL 2024 has been totally opposite.

The Southpaw has scored only 39 runs in the first four innings at an average of 9.75 and a strike rate of 144.44. He is still a youngster, and if he keeps failing, it might also affect his confidence. Furthermore, if he fails badly in the coming games, there is a strong possibility that he might be dropped because India already have the option of Shubman Gill.
