Team India announced a 15-member Squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The Indian selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, announced the 15-members India squad that will play in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at home. India will host the World Cup 2023, starting on October 5 in Ahemedbad. India will face Australia in their opening encounter on October 8 at Chepauk Stadium.

Being the hosts, India are firm favourites to win the tournament, and that is why they have made some big decisions in selecting the squad. The 15-members team is almost the same as that playing in Asia Cup 2023. Only Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and Praisdh Krishna are the three players to be dropped.

But apart from this, Indian selection committee didn't consider some big names, like Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Ashwin, and others, for the mega event in India. In this article, we will talk about three Indian cricketers who might retire from the 50-overs format after being snubbed from the World Cup squad.

Four Indian Players who are likely to retire from ODIs after being snubbed from ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 squad

1. Shikhar Dhawan:

Shikhar Dhawan has been out of Indian squad since last December. His last ODI game for India was against Bangladesh in December 2022. Since then, he has been away from the team, and it looks like this might be it for the veteran opener. The 37-years-old is not in the scheme of things for India. With not many chances on the team, Dhawan might announce his retirement from the game. He has played 167 ODIs and scored 6793 runs at 44.11, with 17 centuries and 39 half-centuries.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar:

Just like Dhawan, veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has also been ignored by the team management for the ODI World Cup 2023. Bhuvi played his last ODI game in January 2022 and hasn't played this format for more than 18 months now. And after not getting a chance in the World Cup, it is pretty clear that the management has moved on to other bowlers. So we might see Bhuvi retire from the game pretty soon.

3. Ravichandran Ashwin:

India picked three leg-spinners and didn't include the veteran off-spinner in the team. It reflects that the team is thinking beyond Ravichandran Ashwin, at least in the white-ball format. Ashwin last played an ODI in January 2022 against South Africa and hasn't had another chance since then. He has played 113 ODIs and taken 151 wickets, and he might retire from ODIs after the tournament.

4. Ajinkya Rahane:

India's vice-captain in tests, Ajinkya Rahane, is another veteran player who was not considered for the World Cup squad. With other younger batters doing well, India didn't think about him at all. Rahane was also not part of the 2019 ODI World Cup and played his last ODI in February 2018. With no further chance, he might end his ODI career with a retirement soon.
