Four Indian cricketers who will make their World Cup debut in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
India will kick-off their World Cup 2023 campaign against Australia on 8th October in Chennai.
On 21st August, the Indian selection panel will meet to decide the best 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. This team will give a sense of how India will be preparing their strategies for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. While most of the squad remains intact, there will be discussion around a few names for the tournament. Fans will also get to know about the team that will enter the mega event. Along with the two-to-three big names, there are names set to make their debut in the World Cup tournament.
Along with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah, there will be an army of youngsters who will enter this big tournament for the first time. There are names in contention for a big role in the tournament. Youngsters like Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravi Bishnoi, Umran Malik, and Sanju Samson are in contention for a place in the squad, but there are a few names who are set to make their debut in the mega event. Let’s have a look at those names.
1. Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj is probably the most improved white-ball bowler in world cricket since the time he made his debut for India. Earlier known for leaking runs, Siraj is now India’s highest wicket-taker in ODIs in the year 2023. Now Siraj has earned the control he needed with the white ball and consistently performs in this format. Siraj, with his consistent good rhythm, has almost fixed his place in the World Cup squad and is set to make his World Cup debut.
2. Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill, with three centuries in the year 2023, has almost fixed himself as an opening partner for Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Shubman Gill has put a brake on India’s search for an opening batter after KL Rahul was shifted to the middle order. Gill has scored 750 runs in 12 ODI innings this year to mark himself safe and also be ready for his World Cup debut in October.
3. Ishan Kishan
It is almost certain that India’s wicket-keeper batter, Ishan Kishan, will be there as a reserved keeping option in the squad. KL Rahul is likely to be fit and picked for the Asia Cup as well as the upcoming World Cup 2023. Kishan did magnificent work against West Indies in the three-match ODI series and scored 184 runs in 3 innings. Kishan will also get to make his debut in the World Cup 2023.
4. Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur has been India’s leading wicket-taker in the ODI format after the 2019 World Cup, with 52 wickets in the 34 games he played. Also seen as an all-rounder, Shardul Thakur will get his due opportunity in the upcoming World Cup as a crucial partnership breaker and also a useful lower-order batter. Shardul Thakur has been in top form in the 50-over format.
