However, Abhishek shattered their hopes of victory with his quickfire half-century in the second innings.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, India clashed with New Zealand in five T20Is to prepare for the tournament. In the opening game in Nagpur, Abhishek hammered 84 runs off just 35 deliveries with the help of eight sixes and five fours.

Batting at a strike rate of 240, the Indian opener hit Kiwi bowlers all over the park. With his brilliant knock, Abhishek helped India post a gigantic total of 238/7 and eventually win the game by 48 runs. He was also adjudged Player of the Match.
