Here we take a look at the top five Indian batsmen who have scored most runs in T20I cricket.
Indian cricket team are producing some extraordinary young talents in the T20I format. Suryakumar Yadav has been the biggest example of how Indian Premier League has benefited Indian team management in spotting multiple talents in cricket’s shortest format. In just a few months after his international debut, Surya has emerged as one of the leading run-scorers for India in T20I format. Similarly, others are following the same path.
Before entering into the transition period in the T20I format, their previous generation also had dominating times in T20I record books. Let’s have a look at the leading run-scorers for India in the T20I format.
Here are India’s top five highest run-scorers in the T20I cricket:
5. Shikhar Dhawan – 1759 runs in 66 innings :
Former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was a prolific batter. But with youngsters taking over the limelight, Dhawan was sidelined from the limited-overs format and he hasn’t represented India for the last 12 months. In his 10-year-long T20I career, Shikhar Dhawan scored 1759 runs in 66 innings at an average of 27.92 and strike rate of 126.36. Dhawan scored 11 half-centuries in the format.
4. Suryakumar Yadav – 2000 runs in 56 innings :
India’s T20 sensation Suryakumar Yadav has made himself a star in this format with his splendid shot-making ability. Suryakumar is currently a fan-favorite player in his short T20I career. Known for hitting outrageous shots, Suryakumar Yadav has made it to the top 5 leading run-scorers for India in no time. Surya has scored 2000 runs in 56 innings at a magnificent average of 44.11 and an outrageous strike rate of 171.71.
3. KL Rahul – 2265 runs in 68 innings :
Looked as a future leader of Indian team, KL Rahul also had a marvelous run in this format for team India. KL Rahul is only the third Indian batter to score more than 2000 T20I career runs. KL Rahul has scored 2265 runs in 68 innings for India. Rahul has scored 2 centuries and 22 half-centuries for his national side. His average in the T20I format stands at 37.75 and his strike rate is 139.12. KL Rahul hasn’t played a single T20I game for India after the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final loss.
2. Rohit Sharma – 3853 runs in 140 innings :
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had a tight race with Virat Kohli as the leading run-scorer of this format. Rohit Sharma is second overall in the list of leading run-scorers not only for India but also overall. Rohit has scored 3853 runs in 140 innings. Rohit Sharma began his T20I career in T20 World Cup 2007 played in South Africa. Rohit Sharma has smashed most number of centuries in this format and leads the chart with 4 T20I hundreds.
1. Virat Kohli – 4008 runs in 107 innings :
Superstar Virat Kohli is the leading run-getter in the T20I format for India and also the only batter to breach the 4000-run mark in this format. Virat Kohli has scored 4008 runs in 107 innings. He has been a consistent performer for India in the limited-overs format and has batted with an extraordinary average of 52.73 and a strike rate of 137.96. Virat Kohli has also smashed a century in this format and scored 37 half-centuries in 107 innings.
