The Indian team are currently engaged in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. They are looking very good to go long in the tournament, and if everything goes well, India might end their ICC Trophy drought. But just after the tournament, India will tour Zimbabwe. India will play five T20Is against Zimbabwe between July 6 and 14.
The Indian selection committee has announced a 15-member squad for the Zimbabwe T20I tour, and Shubman Gill will be leading the side, which has a number of new faces in the squad. Some of the players will be playing their first T20I assignment for Team India. In this article, we will talk about five new faces who earned their maiden T20i call-up for India.
List of 5 Indian players who earned maiden call-up for Zimbabwe T20I tour
1. Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma was certainly the biggest uncapped Indian player that became popular in the Indian Premier League 2024. Along with Travis Head, he applied an ultra-aggressive approach for Sunrisers Hyderabad, which gained him a lot of success. He scored 484 runs in 16 innings at an average of 32.26 and an unbelievable strike rate of 204.71 with 42 sixes. He was rewarded with his exceptional performance, and everyone will hope that he can continue that approach at the international level as well.
2. Dhurv Jurel
Dhurv Jurel has already represented India at the highest level. He made his test debut against England ahead of the IPL 2024 and did pretty well with the bat. Then, he also had a decent run at the IPL 2024 with bat, where he scored 195 runs. Hence, the Indian selectors have shown trust in him and given him the maiden T20I call-up for the Zimbabwe T20I tour. He will be the backup keeper of the side next to Sanju Samson.
3. Nitish Reddy
Nitish Reddy was someone who caught the attention of everyone when he won a couple of games single-handedly for Sunrisers Hyderabad at IPL 2024. He played some blinders with the bat, but what impressed everyone was that he is a very decent all-rounder. Nitish was bowling at 140 km/h and taking wickets. India need pace-bowling all-rounders, and Nitish is a bright prospect for the T20I side in the future.
Having won Emerging Player award at IPL 2024, Nitish has earned his maiden India T20I call-up for the Zimbabwe tour.
4. Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag had a career-changing six-month period, which has brought him his maiden T20I call-up. He had a horrible IPL career, but he entered the IPL 2024 with some domestic form and showed that he has matured as a batter. Riyan was the third-highest scorer in the IPL 2024 and scored 573 runs at an average and strike rate of 52.09 and 149.21 respectively, with four half-centuries. He will be the one player to watch out for on the Zimbabwe T20I tour.
5. Tushar Deshpande
India have picked a number of pacers on the Zimbabwe T20I tour. Tushar Deshpande is one name in this unit. The Mumbai-born pacer has also gotten his maiden T20I call after some good domestic and IPL 2024 performances. He took 17 wickets for Chennai Super Kings at an economy rate of 8.83 and bowled well with new and old balls, which is why the selectors have picked him up on this tour.
