Team India are set to play three ODIs against Australia ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
It's all set for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to start in India. The hosts are busy in preparation for the mega event. After winning the Asia Cup 2023, the Indian team will host the five-time champions Australia for three ODIs just before the mega event starts on October 5. The first ODI was to be played on September 22, and the squad for the series was announced on Monday, which saw some interesting picks.
Mainly senior players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have been rested from the first two games and will be back in the final ODI on September 27. But will resting them work for India? Only time will tell. Here we will talk about five Indian players who are part of the World Cup 2023 but are not part of the first two ODIs against Australia.
Here are 5 members of India's ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 squad who won't be seen in first two ODIs against Australia:
1. Rohit Sharma:
The Indian captain Rohit Sharma will be leading the country in the World Cup 2023. But the BCCI has given him rest for the first two ODIs against Australia. KL Rahul will lead the team in his absence. Rohit looked in good form in the Asia Cup 2023, and hope he can take the same form in the World Cup.
2. Virat Kohli:
The former Indian captain Virat Kohli is another player who got the rest from the first two ODIs against Australia. He will be back for the final game, but Virat has been on a quiet rest for some time now. But the BCCI has some other thoughts, and he is not part of the first two games. Virat will be the most important player for India in the World Cup 2023 and his form will be the backbone of the batting lineup.
3. Hardik Pandya:
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya was expected to lead India against Australia. But he also has been rested for the first two ODIs. Hardik is a very important member of the team who is required in both departments, and he has been playing consistently for the last few months. That is why BCCI rested him to manage the workload.
4. Kuldeep Yadav:
The Man of the Tournament of the Asia Cup 2023, Kuldeep Yadav, is also not part of the first two games, which was a surprise for many because for a bowler, gametime is more important. It might be that the BCCI didn't want to expose him against Australia because India's opening game in World Cup 2023 is against Australia on October 5, where Kuldeep Yadav might be a key.
5. Axar Patel (Injured):
Well, this is not the case for a rest, but Axar Patel has been injured and recovering from the injury he had during the Super Four game against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023. Rohit Sharma informed me that he needs another ten days to recover completely. That is the reason that he is not part of the first two games. But his inclusion in the third ODI will depend on his recovery. India have picked Ravi Ashwin and Washington Sundar in the squad.
