Ravi Ashwin played his last ODI for India in January 2022 in South Africa.
The Indian Selection Committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, announced the Indian squad for the upcoming Australia ODIs. After winning the 8th Asia Cup title, India will have a four-day gap before starting their next assignment against Australia. The three ODIs will start on September 22 and end on September 27. India have two squads; the first will be led by KL Rahul for the first two ODIs, with seniors resting.
Then, all the seniors will be back in the third ODI to be played on September 27, which will be the final game ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Veteran off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has also made his comeback in the squad after one year and nine months. He last played an ODI game in January 2022 in South Africa. He played the tests against West Indies earlier this year.
Ravi Ashwin will play Local ODI game before joining Team India for AUS ODIs
Ravi Ashwin was recently caught at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, having a bowling session in nets. But he hasn't had much game time in recent times. As a result, he will be playing a domestic One-day game before joining the Indian team for the coming series. He will play an One-day game in Chennai, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
This game will be played in a local league of the Team Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). The VAP Trophy's league is underway in Chennai. Ravi Ashwin is vastly experienced and has played a total of 113 ODIs in his career. The 37-year-old has picked up 151 wickets at an economy rate of 4.94 and was part of India's 2011 World Cup-winning squad.
A TNCA official said, "He wants to spend some time on the ground, and a 50-over game will provide him with that opportunity. He recently visited the NCA for routine maintenance work on his body and to hone his skills under the guidance of spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule. He's determined to prepare himself comprehensively for any and all challenges." The Indian team will reach Chandigarh on September 20 to prepare for the first ODI in Mohali. Ravi Ashwin will directly join the team in Mohali.
