Hosts Sri Lanka won the three-match SL vs IND ODI series by a 2-0 scoreline.

The Sri Lankan cricket team achieved one of their most cherished series wins on Wednesday at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo as they defeated India in an ODI series after 27 years.

On August 7, the Charith Asalanka-led Sri Lankan team thrashed India by 110 runs to seal the three-match SL vs IND ODI series by 2-0. The first ODI was tied and Lanka won the second ODI by 32 runs.

The Sri Lankan spinners dominated the series while their top-order and lower-middle-order made vital contributions in all games.

In this article, we will look at five key stats from the SL vs IND ODI series:

Sri Lanka break India’s streak of 13 series without a defeat against SL

With this result, India’s streak of 13 consecutive ODI series without a defeat against Sri Lanka was snapped. India last lost an ODI series against Sri Lanka in 1997.

27 wickets for Sri Lankan spinners

The Lankan spinners snared 27 wickets in this series, which is the most by a team’s spinners in a three-match ODI series.

The previous highest wickets taken by a team’s spinners in a three-ODI series was 21 by Pakistan against Bangladesh in 2011 and Hong Kong against Papua New Guinea in 2016.

Dunith Wellalage creates history with the ball

Left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage became the first spinner to take two five-wicket hauls against India in men’s ODIs. He took a five-for in last year’s Asia Cup and the third ODI in this SL vs IND ODI series.

First time India bowled out in all matches of a three-ODI series

This was the first time that the Indian men’s team were bowled out in all games of a three-ODI series.

Sri Lanka extend home dominance

While they have been dismal away from home, Sri Lanka have been clinical at home in ODIs. They have now won eight consecutive home ODI series. They last lost a home ODI series in 2021.
