Confirmed list of teams who have qualified for ICC Champions Trophy 2025
A total of 8 teams will participate in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.
It was almost halfway in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 when International Cricket Council’s (ICC) decision of the top 8 teams from CWC 2023 qualifying for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan came into limelight. This made every single game in the league round of CWC 2023 interesting and the team fought hard for their deserving place in the second biggest 50-overs ICC tournament. Champions Trophy 2025 will be played in Pakistan in February.
A total of 8 teams will be participating in the Champions Trophy which will be taking place after a big gap of 8 years. ICC replaced the ICC Champions Trophy 2021 tournament with the World Test Championship cycle 2019-21, with the final of the tournament played in Southampton. After a great fight between the 10 teams in the World Cup 2023 league round, 8 teams along with the hosts Pakistan, have prevailed through while big names like Sri Lanka and West Indies are missing out on the big list.
Here are the teams who have qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan:
1. Pakistan:
Pakistan were the only team that could have avoided disqualification even if they finished below 8th in the points table. Pakistan had already qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as they were picked as hosts of the tournament. Pakistan had a below-average World Cup 2023 campaign and finished 5th in the points table. Pakistan won only 4 out of their 9 league games.
2. India:
Team India had a dominating run at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and finished in pole position in the group stage. They won all of their 9 league stage games and earned 18 points. A dominating run in the World Cup 2023 helped them in qualifying for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 set to be played in Pakistan easily. India have also qualified for the semi-final of the World Cup 2023.
3. South Africa:
Looking for their first-ever World Cup final and cricket’s glorious title, South Africa also had a brilliant campaign in the World Cup 2023. Barring the defeat against the Netherlands in Dharamsala and India in Kolkata, they won all the remaining 7 games in the league round. South Africa earned 14 points in 9 games and finished second in the table to qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025
4. Australia:
Australia had a few scares when they began their campaign in the World Cup 2023. Team India and South Africa, both defeated five-time World Champions convincingly. It also made them rethink their strategies and now they are into the semi-finals of the CWC 2023 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after 7 consecutive wins in the league round. Australia finished CWC 2023 group stage at 3rd place with 14 points and 7 wins.
5. New Zealand:
New Zealand have also qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan after a decent performance in the World Cup 2023. They had a great start to the World Cup but failed to carry that momentum in mid-tournament. After winning the first four, the Kiwis lost the next 4 games to put their semi-final qualification hanging in mid-way. A win against Sri Lanka ensured they finish at 4th place.
6. Afghanistan:
The Afghans have been one of the most impressive sides in the World Cup. They came almost closer to their dream semi-final qualification as they finished 6th in the table with 8 points and 4 wins. Their splendid effort has also marked qualification in front of their name for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. Afghanistan defeated England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands in the CWC 2023.
7. England:
Defending champions were awful in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 but somehow they managed to make their name in this list. England were languishing at the bottom with just 2 points in their first 7 league games but two back-to-back wins in the last two games fixed their place in the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. England won only 3 games in the World Cup 2023.
8. Bangladesh:
Bangladesh have also qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after winning their penultimate game against Sri Lanka at MCA Stadium in Pune. Sri Lanka were also in contention but they needed to win against Bangladesh and the result came otherwise. Bangladesh had a poor World Cup campaign and they couldn’t challenge any team properly.
