Aakash Chopra & Fans mock Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif after Pakistan's Hong Kong Sixes win over India
Shehbaz Sharif’s congratulatory post sparks memes and sarcastic reactions after Pakistan’s victory
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif found himself at the centre of social media trolling after congratulating his country’s team for defeating India in the Hong Kong Sixes 2026. His post, celebrating the four-wicket victory, attracted widespread attention, with cricket fans questioning the significance of the celebrations.
Pakistan defeated India on October 30, chasing a target of 89 runs in just 3.5 overs. Following the result, Sharif took to X to praise the players and acknowledge Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi for supporting the team.
In his post, Sharif wrote:
“Congratulations to our boys on a superb four-wicket victory over India in the opening clash of the Hong Kong Sixes 2026! It was a good game of cricket. I also commend Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi and his team for their dedicated efforts in preparing and supporting our players.”
However, the phrase “opening clash” became the biggest talking point, as Pakistan had already lost its opening match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier that day.

Sharif’s post triggered several sarcastic reactions, with users questioning his description of the India match as the tournament’s opening clash.
One user, Krishna Anand, directly pointed out the mistake, writing:
“PM Modi posts after winning the Cricket WC, Asian Games Gold, Asia Cup, Hockey Olympics etc. Meanwhile Pak PM:”
Another user, Big Cat Of The Day, sarcastically congratulated Pakistan, writing:
“Congratulations on winning match against India in biggest cricket tournament on planet. This exceeds any World Cup or Asia Cup ever played.”
The comments added to the online trolling, with users making fun of the excitement surrounding a victory in the six-a-side tournament.
Aakash Chopra takes a dig at Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif
Former India opener Aakash Chopra also reacted to Sharif’s post, pointing out the factual error and reminding him of Pakistan’s earlier defeat against the UAE.
‘“Humne Bharat Ko Hara Diya” bolne ki itni jaldi hai ki fact-check bhi nahin kiya. UAE se haare in the opening game. And also, you can gauge the quality of cricket Pakistan is playing that country’s PM is tweeting about Hong Kong Sixes. I mean. Really!!’ Aakash Chopra wrote on X.
His sarcastic response added to the online discussion, with several cricket fans sharing his post and joining the debate.
The controversy followed Pakistan’s emphatic performance against India at the Mission Road Ground in Hong Kong. India posted 88/5 in their allotted six overs, with Shashank Singh smashing 40 off just 11 deliveries. Pakistan chased down the target in only 3.5 overs, winning by four wickets. Khawaja Nafay led the chase with an unbeaten 41 off 12 balls.
While Pakistan celebrated an impressive win over their arch-rivals, the Prime Minister’s post and the reactions it generated turned the result into a major talking point beyond the cricket field.
