Aakash Chopra also stated he personally likes KL Rahul as a player.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has expressed his thoughts on wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul’s future with the Indian cricket team.

Recently, Rahul made his return to the Indian test line-up when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the first match of the two-match test series against Bangladesh.

Rahul also played two ODI matches during the Sri Lanka white-ball tour, but the wicket-keeper batter had poor outing in both of the matches. The right-handed batter didn’t score a single fifty and was dropped from the final ODI, where Rishabh Pant replaced him in the India playing XI.

I personally like KL Rahul as a player: Aakash Chopra

Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra hailed the 32-year-old KL Rahul as a super talented and skilled player. However, Chopra stated that Rahul needs to score runs in order to stay in the team.

“I personally like KL Rahul as a player. He will have to score runs. If he keeps scoring runs, he will keep moving forward. His fate is that he will always be in the shadows of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. These are the big guys. I feel Rahul is super talented, super skilled,” Chopra said.

The former Indian opener Chopra felt that Rahul has been unfairly criticized at times.

“Future – he will keep playing until he keeps scoring runs. Although the team rates him very highly, an atmosphere gets created against him very quickly in Indian cricket. There are plenty of people who go after him,” Chopra added.

“So he won’t get as long a rope as you would give to anyone else with the same caliber or pedigree. If it’s up to me, I would definitely give it because he has scored a lot of runs and difficult runs,” Chopra said.

Rahul has played 199 international matches across formats for India so far. The veteran batter has scored 7979 runs, including 17 centuries and 54 half centuries across formats.
