India's tour of Australia 2025
"Shubman Gill should also have been sent back"- Aakash Chopra on Kuldeep Yadav’s removal from India’s T20I squad

Shubman Gill has scored only 57 runs in three T20Is in ongoing series.
Aakash Chopra, a former player for India, has questioned whether Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav ought to have been dropped from the Men in Blue T20I team during the current series against Australia.
He emphasized that in order to get players ready for the more crucial red-ball duties that lie ahead, both Australia and India removed players in the midst of the series.
With two games remaining, the five-match Twenty20 International series between Australia and India is now locked at 1-1. Travis Head will not be playing for Australia in the final two matches, but Kuldeep was cut from the Indian team prior to the third Twenty20 International.
Chopra questioned whether Shubman Gill, who is the India test captain, should also have joined Kuldeep Yadav in returning home to prep for the South Africa series.
“Travis Head is now out of the T20I series. He will go and practice with the red ball because the Ashes are about to come. Kuldeep Yadav has also returned home because he will play for India A against South Africa A, so that he can also prepare for red-ball cricket. I am wondering whether Shubman Gill should have also been sent back,” he said on his YouTube channel.
“Josh Hazlewood wasn’t there already. Glenn Maxwell might become available now, but Travis Head won’t be there. It’s a strange series. It’s a bilateral series, but is it actually an important series? If preparations for something else are more important as compared to what is happening currently, it means this is not that important. Then why are they playing?” he observed.
On Thursday, November 6, India and Australia will play their fourth Twenty20 International in Gold Coast. Two days later, the last Twenty20 International will take place in Brisbane.
“His tour isn’t going very good” – Aakash Chopra on Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill might have been let go, according to Aakash Chopra, as he hasn’t performed well thus far, and the pressure might have increased with each setback. Gill has scored 57 runs in three games with the best of 37* at a strike rate of 135.71.
He added that Gill could have been sent to India to prepare for the crucial test series against South Africa.
“I felt Shubman Gill could have been released as well because his tour isn’t going very good, and the more such innings keep happening, the more pressure might be mounting on him. Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal are breathing down his neck. He could have been released and asked to prepare for red-ball cricket. When the selectors don’t wish to play Travis Head and Kuldeep Yadav, you can also go. The two-match series against South Africa will be very important,” Chopra concluded.
The two-test series between India and South Africa begins on November 14 in Kolkata, with the second test in Guwahati from November 22.
