Abhishek Nayar said that Rohit Sharma’s captaincy during ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was unbelievable.

Former Indian Cricket Team assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has heaped rich praise on ODI skipper Rohit Sharma, hailing him as a “crazy leader”. Recently, Nayar also revealed that the right-hander has lost 10 kgs of weight as he prepares for next challenge.

Rohit is pulling his socks up for the upcoming ODI series against Australia as India will travel down under for a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series. Rohit, the current ODI skipper, is expected to lead the side in the three ODI games, scheduled to take place from October 19 to 25.

The 38-year-old also recently trained at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru and is currently putting in hard yards in Mumbai ahead of the ODIs against Australia. His last outing for India came in March during ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where he led the Men in Blue to the title as they defeated New Zealand in the final. Notably, he was also Player of the Match in the final for his brilliant 76 under pressure.

Speaking on recent podcast, Nayar heaped praises on Rohit’s captaincy. He also added that his captaincy during ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was unbelievable.

“I have learned a lot from Rohit Sharma, how well he manages the team, how well he manages the players, it has been a great journey. He’s crazy as captain and leader,” he said.

“There were so many decisions Rohit Sharma in the Champions Trophy that were just unbelievable, just unbelievable. From outside I was like how he backed players, but he said ‘Main Karunga, main inme se best nikalunga’ [I will do, I will get the best out of them]. The way he backed players is amazing. Rohit Sharma as Captain is crazy, he’s a genius,” Nayar added.

Meanwhile, Rohit last played competitive cricket in June during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Playing as an opener for Mumbai Indians (MI), he amassed 418 runs in 15 games at a strike rate of 149.28, including four half-centuries. At the end of August, he successfully underwent fitness tests at BCCI’s CoE in Bengaluru.
