DC star Abhishek Porel arrested in rape & criminal intimidation case

The Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper batsman has landed in legal trouble.
Delhi Capitals‘ star Abhishek Porel has made headlines for the wrong reasons. The 23-year-old has been arrested in connection with a criminal case. A couple of months back, a medical student accused Porel of a physical relationship in the name of marriage.
An FIR was registered against him at Magra Police Station in the Hooghly district of West Bengal. Hooghly Rural police SP Kumar Bhushan Singh confirmed his arrest from Emami City under the Dum Dum police station.
Abhishek was considered one of the emerging talents in the Indian domestic circuit. He plays for Bengal and was a regular feature in the state team. In the Indian Premier League, Porel made his debut in 2023 for Delhi Capitals.
Since then, he has stayed with the franchise and has shown good growth with the bat. Significantly, the 23-year-old man denied all the allegations and termed the matter a conspiracy to defame him and damage his reputation.
Abhishek Porel was taken into custody
In June, a medical student, who had been in a relationship with Abhishek for three years, lodged an FIR. The Calcutta HC announced an arrest of the 23-year-old late on Monday. According to the police, they searched for him at his home in Chandannagar. However, he was not available at that time.
On Monday night, he was taken into custody in Hooghly. Police questioned Porel, and he was later sent for a medical test. According to the FIR, the women confirmed they had been in a relationship for three and a half years.
But in the last year or so, Porel started to distance himself from her. The FIR reads, “Abishek Porel illegally confined the complainant. He denied her food and deliberately kept her isolated. As a result… the complainant became physically weak and was unable to walk properly. Despite having a flight… she was compelled to seek immediate medical attention due to the injuries sustained.”
The woman said in her statement that Porel had a sexual relationship with her in the name of marriage and also intimidated her. This would be a major setback for him and his career, in which he had shown promising signs of future success.
