Abhishek Sharma makes STATEMENT; slams double century in THIS match after poor Zimbabwe tour

Abhishek Sharma produced a stunning knock to regain confidence following a difficult run with the Indian team.

The Indian Cricket Team are coming off a victorious series against Zimbabwe. They completely dominated the three-match series, winning all three games against the hosts in Harare. However, one player who looked completely out of touch throughout the series was opener Abhishek Sharma.

Abhishek, who was the No. 1 batter in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings before the series, was dethroned by his own teammate, Ishan Kishan, and has now slipped to No. 3 following a string of disappointing performances. He managed to score just 11 runs across three matches against Zimbabwe.

Before the Zimbabwe series, India had endured a disappointing tour of Ireland and England, losing the T20I series 0-2 and 0-4 respectively. The Indian top order struggled throughout both tours, and Abhishek also failed to make a significant contribution with the bat. However, against Zimbabwe, when every other Indian batters tried to regain their confidence, Abhishek failed again, giving Indian fans reason to worry.

After the series, Abhishek rushed back home and continued his preparations by playing against district teams, trying to get back into form.

Playing in a district-level tournament, Abhishek Sharma scored 233 runs off just 91 balls, smashing 15 fours and 25 sixes against Tarn Taran Men Sr in a one-day district match. Even though it was a lower-level tournament, it will serve as a huge confidence booster for the Indian opener.

The 25-year-old opener is known for his T20 game, but he is nowhere near the ODI team. With the Cricket World Cup scheduled for next year, Abhishek would like to prove himself in ODI tournaments as well and try to sneak into India’s ODI squad for the World Cup in South Africa.

Although it is still far from reality, the hard-hitting opener can provide an incredible start to the innings, something the selectors would certainly fancy.

More than that, Abhishek also wants to regain his touch in the T20 format, mainly because there is a lot of competition in the team for the opening spot. His opening partner during the T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson, had to lose his place to the new young star, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

The Indian management selects players based on their performances and not their reputation, so Abhishek would like to regain his form before he loses his place in the team.
