Abhishek Sharma achieved the feat during the fifth IND vs AUS T20I at The Gabba, Brisbane.
The fifth T20I between Indian Cricket Team and Australian Cricket Team is currently underway at The Gabba, Brisbane. Indian opener Abhishek Sharma yet again was at the helm of the things as he grabbed a massive record in his kitty, becoming the fastest batter to score 1000 runs in T20I cricket in terms of balls faced.
Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first in the encounter, featuring a same playing XI as the last match. The Men in Blue made one change, replacing batter Tilak Varma with Rinku Singh.
Openers Abhishek and Shubman Gill opened the batting for the visitors, smacking runs at a high strike rate from the start. Till 4.5 overs, when the match was halted due to lightning and rain, the duo drove the scoreboard to 52/0. Abhishek followed his aggressive batting approach, hitting 23 runs off 13 deliveries with one six and one boundary.

During the encounter, Abhishek became the fastest batsman to reach the milestone of 1000 runs in T20I cricket according to balls faced. He has achieved the mark off 528 balls, surpassing Suryakumar Yadav’s earlier record of 573 deliveries. The 25-year-old has crossed 1000 runs in his 29th T20I game.

The left-handed batsman has cemented his place as an opener in India’s T20I side with his aggressive batting style following his international debut last year. Across 29 games so far, he has already hammered two centuries and six half-centuries. In the ongoing series, he has scored one half-century and is the leading run-scorer with 140 runs.
Meanwhile, the Suryakumar Yadav & Co. are aiming for a series victory in the fifth T20I at The Gabba. They lead the five-match series 2-1 after winning the last two games. Australia won the second T20I, while the opening game was washed out due to rain.
