India will play against Namibia in their next match of the T20 World Cup 2026 on February 12.
The Indian Cricket Team might miss the services of their star opener Abhishek Sharma in their upcoming clash against Namibia in the T20 World Cup 2026. The IND vs NAM encounter is scheduled to take place on February 12 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Abhishek failed to make a mark in India‘s opening game against the USA. The left-handed batsman got out for a golden duck in the second over while trying to go for a big shot. In the second innings, he did not take the field due to stomach issues.
After their opening game against the USA on Saturday, February 7, the Indian team arrived in Delhi on Sunday. On Monday, he rested and enjoyed a team dinner at the residence of head coach Gautam Gambhir in Delhi.
Abhishek Sharma misses India’s training session in Delhi
According to India’s assistant coach Ryan Doeschate, Abhishek is yet to return to full fitness. He did not participate in the training session at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday as he still suffers from his stomach issues.
“Abhi (Abhishek Sharma) has still got a few issues with his tummy, but we are hopeful he will be available for the game in two days time,” Doeschate said in the press conference on Tuesday.
Notably, Washington Sundar has recovered from his injury and has joined the India squad. He will be available for selection in the upcoming clash against Namibia. He was out of the field for over a month due to a side strain and a mild rib fracture sustained in January.
If Abhishek is not able to recover in time, India will have to return to Sanju Samson as an opener in the next game. Notably, Samson was replaced by Ishan Kishan as wicket-keeper batsman in the playing XI ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
Samson flopped with his batting performances in the T20I series against New Zealand in January, while Kishan finished as the second-highest run-scorer for India.
