In IPL 2024, Abhishek Sharma hammered 484 runs at a strike rate of 204.
Abhishek Sharma is “very happy” after receiving his maiden India call-up, which he said is a “dream come true” moment for him.
Abhishek is one of the five players – along with Nitish Kumar Reddy, Riyan Parag, Tushar Deshpande and Dhurv Jurel – who will be part of the Indian T20I squad for the first time on next month’s tour of Zimbabwe.
They have earned their call-ups after impressive performances during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
Shubman Gill will be leading India for the first time in his career. India will tour Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series, starting July 6.
It’s just the start for me: Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma is currently captaining the Agri King’s Knights in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 trophy. Soon after his selection, he opened up about“It’s a dream come true for all the players who have been called up to the Indian team,’ his emotions.
Sharma told Fancode, “It’s a dream come true for all the players who have been called up to the Indian team.”
“I’m very happy. The ultimate goal is obviously to represent the country, and when I go back to my hard work and check all the routines I’ve followed, finally it’s my name there. So I’m very happy and I think it’s just the start for me because the goal is obviously more than that. But I’m really grateful,” he added.
Interestingly, Abhishek Sharma learned about his selection in the national side on the giant screen in the stadium.
“I actually saw it on the big screen; it was there, so I had an idea. Probably as a cricketer, you already know when you’ve been doing a few good performances, but obviously, when you see yourself on the board in the Indian team, it’s always a really great and happy moment,” the youngster added.
Abhishek had a stunning IPL 2024 campaign for Sunrisers Hyderabad as he formed a destructive opening pair with Travis Head. Sharma blasted 484 runs at a strike rate of 204. His tally of 42 sixes was the highest in this year’s tournament.
