Abhishek Sharma has replaced Travis Head from the top spot in the ICC rankings for T20I batsmen.

In the latest rankings for T20I batsmen released by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma has grabbed the top spot. The left-handed batsman has replaced Australia’s Travis Head to become the No.1 ranked batter in the shortest format of the game.

Sharma gained one spot to reach the top position in the ICC rankings with 829 rating points. Head has dropped to second place with 814 rating points.

Sharma last played a T20I match against England earlier this year in February. The Indian opener has played 17 T20Is so far, hitting 535 runs at a strike rate of 193.85. He has also slammed two half-centuries and two centuries.

Tilak Varma continues to grab the third spot in the ICC rankings for T20I batters. India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav holds the sixth spot. Yashasvi Jaiswal has dropped two spots and occupies the 11th rank in the updated rankings. Australia’s Josh Inglis has gained six spots to capture the ninth spot.

Meanwhile, Travis Head is part of the Australia squad for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa in August. During the series, he will have the chance to reclaim his top spot in the ICC rankings. Australia and South Africa will play three T20Is during the series.

Moreover, Sharma will have the opportunity to retain his top spot if he is picked in the Asia Cup 2025. The tournament will be played in T20I format from September 9 to 28. The Indian Cricket Team is currently busy in the test series against England.

Sharma was last seen in action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where he scored a century for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). With 439 runs in 14 games at a strike rate of 193.39, Sharma ended as the second-highest run-scorer for his team.
